A philological study on poisoning of Menthae Herba(薄荷)

Abstract

|
Menthae Herba is in use in Koreanl medicine. The Korean medical doctors use Menthae Herba for dispelling wind and heat from the body(疏散風熱), etc. We investigated toxicity, poisoning symptoms, poisoning treatment and prevention against poisoning of Menthae Herba. The results were summarized as follows: 1.The poisoning reaction of Menthae Herba is a rare occurrence. But, the excessive using Menthae Herba mainly can cause stimulating symptoms on digestive system, nervous system, respiratory system, circulatory system, etc. 2.The representative methods of poisoning treatment in western medicine are washing out the stomach, promotion of vomiting, causing diarrhea. supplies of grape sugar, diuresis, symptomatic treatment and supporting treatment, etc. 3.The representative methods of poisoning treatment in Korean medicine are symptomatic treatment using herbs, acupuncture and moxibustion, etc. 4.In order to prevent against poisoning of Menthae Herba, the patients should keep usage, dosage and notes.
